Do you value your good vision?

National Eye Health Week 2018

Most people say that sight is the sense they’d least like to lose. But many of us tend to take our eyes for granted until something goes wrong. Our focus may be getting a little fuzzy. Our eyes may feel tired and strained. But we often don’t visit an Optician until the problem starts to impact on our lifestyle.

The 24th to the 30th September is National Eye Health Week 2018. Good vision is precious so it’s a good time to reassess how we look after our eyes.

Follow these simple lifestyle tips to help keep your eyes and vision healthy.

1. Get your eyes tested every 2 years even if you don’t think you need to. Some eye conditions don’t show any outward conditions and can only be detected by eye tests.

2. Quit smoking. Current smokers are up to 4 times more likely to develop macular degeneration.

3. Always protect your eyes when its sunny or you’re in high glare areas such as on snow or water. And if you work with hazardous or airborne materials wear safety glasses or protective googles to protect your eyes from injury.

4. Keep fit and healthy and eat well. Studies show omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamins C and E may help prevent age related vision problems.

5. Be screen smart. Staring at a screen for long periods an make your eyes sore, itchy and tired. Take regular breaks to keep your eyes feeling fresh and bright.

So, if you haven’t had an eye test in the last two years, or you’re concerned about your vision, then the best way to start looking after your eyes is to book an appointment with us today.
